The management of the Ministry of Environment, through the National Service of Protected Natural Areas SERNANP state has made it possible for the end of the year 2010 has more than 15 % of national territory protected, making our country a leader in conservation of protected areas. But not only is the recognition of these spaces by legal rules, the country has met 80% of the commitments of the Programme of Work of the Convention of Biological Diversity for Protected Natural Areas.
Throughout the history of the ANP in the country there has been an increase in both area and number, as happened between 2009 and 2010.
regard we mention that Peru during the last two years closed with a historical record declaring eleven protected areas of national administration, regional administration six and sixteen private management, representing a total of 2'784, 356.55 hectares. Also categorized five natural protected areas, which at its inception had the designation of reserve.
At the beginning of 2011, Peru has a total of 20 '187 642.12 108 hectares that are home to protected areas of national administration, regional and private existing throughout our country.
